Allows the joining of 2 sections of pipe, well screen or casing without increasing the outside diameters of the pipe. Ideal for well point installation, external couplings hang up while going down. Having cut your drain pipe too close to the wall for external coupling or if you have fittings glued together around your pool and spa and didn't leave room to use external couplings, use the internal couplings.
